Florida Lineman Drawing Interest from Maryland

Maryland is still in contact with recent South Carolina verbal Tosin Babalade and made the top five for Hillgrove (GA) tackle Benjamin Galloway, but the staff is tracking another after an out-of-state prospect made his first trip to Maryland.

Chaminade-Madonna (FL) offensive tackle Elvin Harris visited Maryland for last weekend’s barbeque and after checking in at 6-foot-6, 317 pounds, the staff was able to get another set of eyes on him. “They said I don’t even look 317 so I hold the weight well,” Harris told Inside the Black and Gold. “Before this weekend, it’s just been having a teammate that’s committed there. I showed my interest, I came here and they’ve got an eye on me now.”

Offensive line GA Jerome Prutos had been in contact with Harris leading into the end of July but Braswell could play a bigger hand in his recruitment. “Coach Prutos, he’s been doing a good job staying in touch with me because he was already recruiting me so he’s always been talking to me telling me they need to get me up here to see me and he told me I’m a good player. I had contact with coach Braswell, he’ll be reaching out and looking more into me and building a connection from here on.”

It marked the first time Harris visited College Park and he was impressed with the campus and facilities. “The facilities are amazing, I can say that. The coaching staff is good, just spent some time around with the [offensive] line coach [Brian] Braswell and coach [Jerome] Prutos which was good. Had a nice time at the cookout.” The cookout was designed for a way for recruits to see the staff in a different light.

“It was showing me something outside of football and that was good. The stuff that they do for their athletes, it was fun to hear about that because that’s something that not a lot of colleges do. From the get-go, they started talking about life after football and stuff they do with the school.”

Of course, Harris made the trip to College Park with his teammate and current Maryland commit Deandre Duffus who is locked in with Maryland. “[Deandre] was telling me about everything, about coach Braswell and how good of a coach he is and that he coached in the NFL,” Harris added.

While UCF and Tulane are in contact with Harris, Duffus adds other schools are still recruiting him but he’s not looking to take any more visits. “There’s a couple of schools but nah, I’m locked in with Maryland.” Last weekend’s visit marked the first visit for Duffus as a Maryland commit where he was able to reconnect with his future position coach.

“It was great. I got to talk to coach Braswell so that’s always good. That’s my boy.”
